Container Vegetable Gardening Tips and Techniques



You don’t need an acreage to grow fresh vegetables. Many vegetables do very well in container gardens. By carefully selecting bush or dwarf varieties, it’s possible to adapt and vegetable – and may fruits – to grow in a pot. Choose veggies that take up little space, like carrots, radishes and lettuce, or long term fruit bearing plants, like tomatoes and peppers. All of these are great for container vegetable gardens.

Your container vegetable garden is limited only by the size of the container and your imagination. You could plan for a Summer Salad container. Plant a tomato plant, a cucumber and some parsley or chives in a large (24-30″) container. They do well together and have the same moisture and sun requirements. By late summer they might be somewhat unkempt, but they should produce produce well into the fall. By the way, this idea is great as a housewarming gift, too.
